Ayutthaya day tour from Bangkok
Did you know Bangkok hasn't been the only Thai capital ever? And that Thailand was once known as the Kingdom of Siam? Yeah, we neither. We found it out during the exciting and interesting day tour to Ayutthaya, thanks to a perfectly organized trip which allowed us to learn a lot on Thai history and explore this amazing archeological site full of temple ruins, pagodas, old thumbs and sacred stones.
We privately contacted the agency ‘Tour with Tong’ before leaving while planning our trip to Thailand at home. They kindly replied offering different tour itineraries to choose with the chance to customize them according to our needs and interests.
Once there in Bangkok, Tammy and the driver came to pick us up directly in front of our hotel: Tammy has been a lovely guide, she spoke fluent English and was always ready to answer our questions with a smile.
The driver offered us water bottles and wet wipes to survive the hot weather and guided us with several stops along this trip 80 km far from the city in an air-conditioned comfortable private car.
Our tour included the following stops:
Bang Pa In Summer Palace | This is the Thai royal family summer Palace on Chao Phraya river, with colorful pavillions and little lakes.
Wat Mahathat | One of the eldest Ayutthaya monuments: here we start seeing the prang, tall tower-like spires usually richly carved commonly used as buddhist shrines to keep gods statues and relics especially in their lower cells, reserved to kings only. Wat Mahathat prang was deeply influenced by Khmer architecture and you'll find a big sacred bodhi tree (ficus) there with a Buddha head made of stone entwined in its roots: hard to forget.

TO GO
Wat Yai Chai Mongkon | One of the most interesting wat, Unesco world heritage: a huge white reclining Buddha statue and 60 mt high domes where you'll enjoy a breathtaking view on the whole archeological site.
Wat Chai Wattanaram | Temple of long reign and glorious era, this is its name translation. It was built to celebrate a new king ascending the throne but it was then buried by the jungle for 220 years after the invasion of Birman empire.
Wat Lokayasutharam | Slightly outside the city centre we find this 40 mt long reclining Buddha statue in all its majesty.
Elephant Kraal Pavillion | If you want to hug a little elephant to end this great day, this is the right place.
